Not champion. Not runner-up. They did not even give us a place. They gave us a WORD that means you were physically present in the building.

I bowled a 94 average that season which I am told is not good. But I showed up every Thursday for eight months in a church basement that smelled like wet carpet and I ate the free chili and I was PART OF SOMETHING.

There are worse hats than a hat that says you kept showing up.
